I've never tried his altos, but his 6-stringed are awsome. I'd love to have one some day.

I am a guitar builder and guitarist in the United States (near Washington, DC) and am looking for a 10 or 11 string Bolin Alto Guitar. My conservatory background is in music composition and as such had to play all instruments but fell in love with the guitar but am looking for an instrument that will extend my repetoire. I have a short scale terz guitar and a 6 string classical but really need something like an alto as I am not good at lute as I am convinced that it will always be foreign to me... thus the interest in an Alto, and preferably by Bolin.

I saw one for sale on eBay about a year ago and could not buy it then but knew on the spot it was just the guitar for the music that I wanted to play. If I had had the money at that time I would have bought it on the spot.

I am willing to pay a fair price as well as to consider building a custom built classical and/or cash for a Bolin. If I had a plantilla for an Alto I could build one myself but was so taken by Bolin's guitars that that is what I would prefer.

I have an 11-string Bolin built february 1975. It's very sweet sounding even though it needs new strings.

By the way could you recommend what strings to use?
