Hi all.
As many other in here I come from a past playing a 6 string guitar.
Now playing 11 string I have a lot of doubt which key to choose playing different Bach Pieces.
Shall I stick to the key I allready know from the 6 string arrangement or learn a new suitable arragement for the 11 string or maybee play both ?
The most of my doubts are concering the following suites.
1007, 1008 and 1012.
Please let me hear if some of you have struggled with the same thoughts or what you ended up doing ?
Some general recomendadtions regarding prefered keys for altoguitar is welcome as well.
ps. I have the downloaded copy of Altguitaren and also downloaded all of Leyenda's bach arangements.
Thanks
Anders.

Hello Anders,
I am glad that you have downloaded a copy of the book Altgitarren.
I think that the Bach keys in that book are suitable. Generally I think that keys as close to the original as possible are best if they are reasonably playable.

BWV 1007 C major
BWV 1008 E minor
BWV 1012 C major
I play BWV 1008 Prelude from Leyenda's site. There were a couple note errors, but most is just fine and it fits very well on altoguitar. Not terribly difficult.
I would say a general rule of thumb is to find a key for the alto guitar that is a minor third (or close) lower than the original. G minor becomes E minor. In the case of BWV 1012, D major would normally become B major, but that key has too many sharps (including A#), so C major becomes a better choice.

Dear Sten and Glen
Thank you for your usefull advices.
@Glen that's also the kyes I prefere for the altoguitar.
Perhaps I should realise when you play the altoguitar the keys are a bit different than on the 6 string and maybe just stick to the pieces in one key (the altoguitar key) to avoide to many versions of the same piece of music.
Just my thughts.
Anders.
